| On Dec. 23, 1999, Beth and I drove down to her family's home in Jupiter Island Florida: a 1,250 mile trip from New York City. We stayed in a Motel 6 in Florence, SC., and then made it to Jupiter by Chirstmas Eve. On Dec. 23, 2001, Beth and I drove down to Jupiter Island, again, staying in the same motel, having breakfast in the same Waffle House, and even having dinner at the same restaurant, sitting outside beside the Jupiter Lighthouse. Why mess with a working formula? |

| After a quick visit at Miami Beach, we drove down to the Florida Keys. Jewfish Creek, below left, was the first sign that we had left the continental United States. Me, Adam, and Josh--three Jewish phishheads--appreciated the sign. |

On the way out of Jupiter Island on January 1, 2002, I peek out of the side-view mirror to see Adam's Toyota following us. The Jeep carried me, Beth, and Jill. Adam's ride had him, Carmen, Miguel, and Josh. We both had 1,200+ miles to get to our respective homes--New York and Chicago. I wished them peace, knowing that we'd be far away, but we'd always remain tight friends. In fact, the mirror said it all: Objects in mirror are closer than they appear. |
